Punk rock

Is perhaps the most contradictory, corporate, annoying, un-manly thing I have ever heard. I mean, I suppose it used to be good, because punk rock is supposed to be about sticking it to the man. But, in these modern days, punk rock has taken an overdose of oestrogen. "Punks" these days spend large amounts of money on pre-ripped jeans. Would a real punk buy designer clothing? No! They'd get their clothes from garage sales, etc. The same goes for their music. It used to be about rejecting corporate trends in music, and sticking it to the man. But now, we see three-chord riffs played over and over again, with some "punkass" pretty boy singing out of tune, high-pitched complaints about things! The huge contradiction here is that these songs make millions of dollars for record company executives, who, supposedly, are being stuck to. It's all a vast conspiracy, with record companies appealing to the lowest common denominator in order to pad their already vast wallets, all the while under some stupid pretext of sticking it to the man. I hate them.

Greenday e.g USED to be good, but now look at them, going against all they worked for being punk rockers in early 90's. Now they are gay, wearing pre- ripped designer clothes, singing like other 'punk rockers' nowadays just to get more money. Im sick of it.

Green Day grew up. Yay. Nothing sadder'n 30-somethings acting as though they were still 19. Anyways, the problem is not one of genre, just sucky bands. I mean, I'd argue a lot of the garage rock bands around today are pretty damn punkish (Hives?) and awesome- so... uh...

Anyways- broad categorizations stated with an air of validity = difficult to take seriously.

I still think Green Day is decent musically. They have changed their image for the worst though, and they really aren't 'punk' any more. I don't think the mainstream look and sound suits them at all. I still like a lot of their songs. I'm just not wild about the new aura of 'pseudo-punk' they have wrapped themselves in.

i actually like the songs some 'punk' bands sing, but you're right about the fashion it is ridiculous and the lyrics to some songs are quite whiney(dont think thats how you spell it)which does ruin the song, but oh well.

I agree outlandish. The new punk image and sound is taking the word punk rock to hell. Why can't there ever be another Sex Pistols, the best punk band ever, voted upon mind you. New punk like greenday, simple plan, good charlette are:
A)ruining punk rock as a whole
B)destroying all punk beliefs and practices such as spiking your hair and running naked through the strees saying "FUCK YOU!!!" to anyone that says anything about it.

I agree most modern punk rock bands are terrible. But if you go back 25/30 years there are some fantastic ones out there

people calling simple plan punk is like calling nelson rock.

punk is, and always has been udnerground, if its not underground IE: has a music video on MTV( fuse and mtv2 are mildly acceptable), or is signed to a major label, their usually not punk.

pop punk has formed its on little bitchy-whiney club of losers, and everybody believs that since thats all you hear on the radio, or tv (which means your not trying), that thats what punk is. try an album like rancid(2000), you can just look at the lyrics and love that.

also, emo is the biggest load of shit to ever fill a diaper.
